Job Description

CARE International in Vanuatu has a focus on Gender Equality, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), Humanitarian Preparedness and Emergency Response.
CARE Vanuatu has added an additional project to the Resilience Program which is the Safe Community Resilience Nation with its main focus on advancing inclusive, sustainable approaches to disaster preparedness and response from community to national level. Program activities will include the strengthening of Community Disaster and Climate Change Committees and will introduce the component of Shelter Focal Points within the Community Disaster Committee in Tafea Province so they are able to independently plan and implement actions in preparation and response to disasters, and mobilise resources and support from the government. It also aims to strengthen coordination at area council and provincial level in Tafea and Penama, building accountability and enhancing participation of women, people with disability and local CSOs in preparing and responding to disasters.
To support the implementation of this projects in Tanna, CARE is seeking individuals for these following positions:

1. Shelter Technical Coordinator

Based in Tanna, you will be responsible for technical oversight and coordination of all field based shelter activities. Shelter activities will include ensuring that staff have the capacity to deliver good quality shelter awareness raising within communities; and ensuring that staffs are trained to deliver the shelter focal point model into the Community Disaster and Climate Change Committees and that there is knowledge transfer between the Shelter Focal Points and the CDCCCs in the communities.

2. Team Leader – Safe Community Resilient Nation

This position is based in Tanna and will be responsible for coordinating all field-based activities that are implemented in Tafea and Penama and will support the Resilience Manager around engagements at the national level as required. This will include managing project officers and supporting them with their development of project and activity plans and ensuring that all activities are implemented and completed in an effective and efficient way.

3. Shelter Officer (X2)

Based in Tanna, you will be responsible to support the Team Leader and Shelter Coordinator TA to implement the day-to-day field based shelter activities. This includes delivery of shelter project activities, ensuring that activities are implemented in a coordinated way with other CARE team members and maintaining a positive working relationships with the community members the project is engaging with.

4. Resilience Officer

You will be responsible to support the Team Leader to implement the daily field Disaster Risk Reduction activities and to ensure that activities are implemented in a coordinated way with other CARE team members and maintaining a close and working relationships with the community members the project is engaging with. You will be based in Tanna with regular travel to field sites.
