CARE International in Vanuatu has a focus on Gender Equality, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), Humanitarian Preparedness and Emergency Response and Recovery.
We are currently looking for an individual with a passion in Gender Equality to join our Gender team in the role of Team Leader for its Pacific Girl Project.
CARE Vanuatu’s Gender Equality Program in Tafea Province takes a comprehensive and integrated approach to working with whole communities to achieve social change working with chiefs, families, individuals, young women and men, adolescents and service providers to increase the voice of women and girls, improve their economic opportunities and end violence against them. CARE also supports and seeks to support the national movement for gender equality in Vanuatu by investing in women’s and girl’s collective leadership, capacity and coordination to work together for a more equal and violence free Vanuatu, including collective advocacy, policy and influencing strategies and also using media and communications for large scale public advocacy. The specific objective of the Pacific Girl program is: Adolescent girls (aged 12 – 19) in rural and remote areas of Tafea province are more respected and safe in their homes and communities, are better able to exercise their rights and have more equal and increasing opportunities.
This position is based in Tanna, with significant travel required to islands within Tafea Province and occasional travel to Port Vila.
Your major responsibilities will be varied and will include:
- Oversights and coordinates all Tafea focused activities implemented under this project, include support to Gender Equality project Manager on engagements at the national level.
- Lead team and support in developing clear consolidated joint project and activity plans, ensuring that relevant common strategies/approaches/tools are used across CARE Vanuatu projects.
- Participation in the development of Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) plan for the project and ensure that all projects are collecting monitoring and evaluation data in accordance with the project MEAL frameworks.
- Lead CARE’s relationship with the Provincial Department of Education, and other relevant government departments and stakeholders.
Required qualifications and skills:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Gender Studies, Community Development, or equivalent projects and/or minimum 4-5 years relevant work experience, preferably in community based development work and/or activity implementation with an International Non-Government Organisation (INGO);
- Proven experience in the development and implementation of community projects;
- Demonstrated strong leadership, decision making, problem solving, planning, analytical and influencing skills;
- Demonstrated experience in effectively leading, people management and motivating a team;
- Excellent communication, facilitation, training skills in Bislama and very good in English;
- Ability to coordinate this technical function(s) and implement procedures and processes, with minimal supervision;
- Demonstrated high level organisational and time management skills, including the ability to plan and manage workflows and balance competing priorities to ensure timely processing to meet deadlines in a complex environment;
- Ability to develop high quality, concise reports and submission with accuracy;
- Demonstrated honesty, maintaining confidentiality, reliable and trustworthy.
- Representational skills including developing networks and relationships with key stakeholders;
- Proven ability to work safely and effectively with communities and vulnerable groups including at risk youth and children;
- Proven ability in managing a budget and/or cash;
- Fully conversant in Microsoft Office with knowledge in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel; and
- Demonstrated understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment and a commitment to CARE’s approach and values including diversity and cultural sensitivity.
