CARE International in Vanuatu has a focus on Gender Equality, Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), Humanitarian Preparedness and Emergency Response.

We are currently looking for a Team Leader to lead the implementation of the “Gender Equality Together (GET)” project.

This project aims to promote collective leadership, capacity and coordination for the promotion of gender equality and elimination of VAWG in Vanuatu. This project includes the Young Women’s Leadership Program (YWLP) – a 12 month leadership program for young ni-Vanuatu women aged 18-30 – and the Gender Cohort – a group of gender focal persons and advocates from diverse organisation who engage in a series of workshops and events to build their skills and networks around gender equality programming.

The position is based in Port Vila, with occasional travel to Tafea Province.

You will have a passion in gender equality and elimination of violence against women and girls (VAWG), you are dedicated and committed, able to lead a team with strong leadership skills.

Your major responsibilities will be varied and will include:

  • Contributing to CARE Vanuatu overall Program Strategy and Leadership including areas of gender equality.
  • Oversight of the GET team ensuring effective team work and clear work plans.
  • Coordinate overall implementation of the GET project
  • Ensure the efficient and proper use of funds is in line with the approved GET activities in compliance with CARE’s finance manual and donor guidelines.
  • Participate in the development of the Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) plan for CARE Vanuatu’s Gender program and lead on MEAL for the GET project and provide support for monitoring and learning processes and timely reporting.
  • Develop and maintain close relationship with relevant stakeholders and partners.

Required qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Community Development, or equivalent projects and/ or minimum 4-5 years relevant work experience, preferably in community based development work and/ or activity implementation with an International Non-Government Organisation (INGO);
  • Proven experience in the development and implementation of gender equality projects;
  • Demonstrated strong leadership, decision making, problem solving, planning, analytical and influencing skills;
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively leading, people management and motivating a team;
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, training skills in Bislama and very good in English;
  • Ability to coordinate this technical function(s) and implement procedures and processes, with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated high level organisational and time management skills, including the ability to plan and manage workflows and balance competing priorities to ensure timely processing to meet deadlines in a complex environment;
  • Ability to develop high quality, concise reports and submission with accuracy;
  • emonstrated honesty, maintaining confidentiality, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Representational skills including developing networks and relationships with key stakeholders;
  • Proven ability to work safely and effectively with communities and vulnerable groups including at risk youth and children;
  • Proven ability in managing a budget and/ or cash;
  • Fully conversant in Microsoft Office with knowledge in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel; and
  • Demonstrated understanding of gender equality and women’s empowerment and a commitment to CARE’s approach and values including diversity and cultural sensitivity.
