Full-Time SHELTER OFFICER

CARE International Vanuatu –  Isangel, Tanna

Job Description

The Shelter officer is responsible to support the Team Leader and Shelter coordinator to implement the day-to-day field based shelter activities. This includes delivery of shelter project activities, ensuring that activities are implemented in a coordinated way with other CARE team members, and maintaining close and positive working relationships with the community members the project is engaging with.

You will be based in Tanna with significant travel to Tafea outer islands and other project sites.

Your major responsibilities will be varied and will include:

  • Support the Team Leader/ Shelter to ensure the effective and efficient implementation of the shelter Disaster Risk Reduction activities according to the activity plan and budget, including preparation of detailed budget requests for each field trip and activities;
  • Regularly perform and document monitoring of all project sites and activities ensuring the participation of community members;

Required qualifications and skills:

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum technical diploma and/ or vocational training in community development, gender or health and/ or minimum 2-3 years relevant work experience,
  • Good understanding of gender equality, and child rights and issues facing adolescent girls and a strong commitment to child protection;
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills in Bislama and good in English
  • Ability to analyse intricate information and produce concise and accurate reports;
  • Demonstrated high level organisational and time management skills, including the ability to plan and manage workflow and balance competing priorities to ensure timely processing to meet deadlines in a complex environment;
  • Demonstrated experience in following standard policies, procedures and processes;
  • A willingness to learn about CARE, gender equality and women’s empowerment activities;
  • Proven ability in managing a budget and/ or cash; and
  • Good in MS Office with knowledge of MS Word and Excel
