Contract PROJECT OFFICER x2 – BUILDING BACK BETTER AGRICULTURE IN VANUATU

Live & Learn –  Efate, Malekula and Erromango

Job Description

Role Purpose: The project officers will aim to support the supply of vegetable seeds, root crop production and farming tools in selected remote communities of Efate, Malekula, and Erromango. “Client” households will choose the vegetable seeds, root stocks and garden tools based on their knowledge of household needs, soil type, past experience etc. and develop household gardens to supply their food security.

Term: The two (2) successful candidates will be on probation for 3 months and performance reviewed before securing a contract. The Contract will be on a one-year bases, effective from the date it is signed after the 3-month probation period and may be renewed for further periods based on staff performance. Salary will be negotiated during the interview to commensurate qualification and experience.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

Specifically, the two (2) project officers are expected to:

  • Minimum qualification of Diploma in Social Work or Project Management or a holder of Bachelor Degree in Agriculture
  • Maturity in judgement, flexibility, creativity, responsiveness, initiative, ability to take a considered approach, openness to learning, have a good sense of humour and an unconditional personal commitment to building food resilience in remote communities of Vanuatu
  • Demonstrate ability to work and supervise a team
  • If successful, a police clearance is required

Duties & Responsibilities:

The successful candidate is expected to undertake the following;

  • Possesses an excellent working knowledge of climate change and food resilience
  • Assist in the delivery of community engagement (including delivery of workshop, awareness raising and trainings) with target communities participating in the Live & Learn Vanuatu .Building back better Agriculture project
  • Assist deliver seed and root stock to 3000 individuals from at least 600 households in North Efate, Malekula and Erromango
  • Assist distribution of tools to 600 households in North Efate, Malekula and Erromango to support improved practices
  • Assist project team members to provide training to households on improved agricultural practices to restore food security
  • Create and developed training package on improved agriculture practice
  • Provide Field Reports on the implementation of the project on targeted sites
  • Support Live and Learns Building back Agriculture program through follow-up community visits, establishing and maintaining networks
  • Support Project Manager and Project Coordinator to undertake visibility designs for food security response
  • Build networks and partnerships with other agencies in accordance with the organisational objectives of Live and Learn, including with Government and non-government organisations and communities.
  • Provide reports, budgets and acquittals on field work as required by the Live & Learn Good Practice Manual
  • Documenting stories and lessons learned through program, project and field experience to contribute to country program development and organizational learning;
  • Support Project Coordinator to carry out project activities as required, including contribution to project reports.
  • Any other tasks required by the Team Leader and the Live & Learn Vanuatu Management team
