The Ministry of Education and Training, with support from the Vanuatu Education Support Program (VESP), is seeking applications for the position of a National Teacher Development Planning Officer. The suitable candidate will provide support to the Director of Tertiary Education within the Ministry of Education and Training to work across a range of stakeholder groups to develop a 10-year plan to improve the quality of teachers and teaching in Vanuatu. The applicant will be working under the supervision of the PEO Teacher Development. Suitable applicants will have a degree in education and extensive experience supporting development of quality teachers and leaders.
DELIVERABLES
The National Teacher Development Planning Officer will oversee finalisation of the Teachers Qualification Policy and development of a National Teacher Development Plan (NTDP) that describes a 10-year road map including key actions for improving the quality of teachers. The Plan will align with the Vanuatu Education and Training Sector Strategy (VETSS) 2020-2030 aim to improve education for all in an efficient and effective way.
Key Tasks will include assisting the PEO Teacher Development to:
- Establishing and undertaking executive officer duties associated with a NTDP Working group comprising key stakeholders across relevant sectors and systems;
- Coordinating consultations to determine a local grown strategies response to improving the quality of teachers and teaching;
- Finalizing development of the Teacher Qualification Policy;
- Managing consultations regards the draft NTDP;
- Drafting a NTDP based on feedback from consultations and evidence about what works to improve the quality of teachers and teaching.
TIMEFRAME
This work is to be undertaken during the period August – December 2021 with the possibility of an extension.
SALARY
The Salary for this position is the equivalent of 7000 VUV per day or 70,000 VUV per fortnight pending qualifications and experiences.
CRITERIA
Applicants should be able to demonstrate through their application letter and CV the following:
- A degree qualification or higher in education;
- Experience in teacher and school leadership development;
- Excellent command of writing in the English and or French Language;
- Competence in using Microsoft word;
- Experience working across multiple stakeholder and developing plans in an education context.
