Project title: Wokbaot Wetem Kalja: Strengthening the use of traditional knowledge and social and cultural systems in displacement management in Vanuatu
Role: Local Cultural Consultant
Duty station: Port Vila, Vanuatu
Duration of the contract: June 2022 to November 2022 (part-time)
Project context and scope:
Wokbaot Wetem Kalja is a 10-month project being implemented by the Vanuatu country office of the International Organization for Migration, from January 2022 to December 2022 which seeks to assist the Government of Vanuatu to integrate culturally-appropriate approaches into displacement and disaster preparedness.
Tangible and measurable output of the work assignment:
The role of a Local Cultural Consultant will involve two key areas of work:
- Assisting in the implementation of project activities including:
o Involvement in the methodology development for cultural and social research activities.
o Undertaking detailed interviews and consultations on topics including cultural perspectives, and preparing detailed summary notes from interviews and consultations.
o Undertaking desktop research and writing up findings.
o Providing advice and input to project direction and methods.
o Facilitating/ leading consultations in Vila.
o Facilitation and participation in Project Advisory Group meetings including government representatives. - Assisting the Project Manager in the coordination, organisation and administration of project activities.
The Local Cultural Consultant/s will work in close liaison with the Project Coordinator and Technical Cultural Advisor.
