OFFICE OF DEPUTY VICE CHANCELLOR AND VICE PRESIDENT (REGIONAL CAMPUSES & GLOBAL ENGAGEMENT), Library – VSS038
The Opportunity
The Library Assistant will provide a wide range of paraprofessional support for library work in the section to which s/he is assigned.
The appointee will:
- Carry out paraprofessional aspects of library work including the provision of assistance to library users, copy cataloguing and data entry, book ordering, gifts and exchanges, serials entry and inter-library loans
- The provision of information, reference and related services to Library customers comprising of students, faculty and staff, researchers, consultants and the general public;
The Person We Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must have:
- Understanding of customer services;
- Very good interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
- Very good understanding of customer services
- Basic competence in library technical skills – cataloguing and classification, data entry, etc.
- Knowledge of, and familiarity with IT and an integrated online library system
- The ability to work as part of a team and under minimal supervision
- The ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
- The ability to work evenings, weekends and public holidays on roster.
- Sound knowledge of current library technologies
Preference will be given to applicants with:
- A Diploma In Library Studies OR
- Completed or enrolled in the certificate in library studies programme OR
- A Diploma in the related area of IT or Education and willing to enroll in the USP PacTAFE Library Diploma for completion in first contract OR
- Successful completion of Year 12 or 13 with a B pass or higher in the English Language and willing to enroll in the USP PacTAFE Library Diploma for completion in first contract.
- Consideration may be given to applicants with a degree and willing to enroll in the Library Diploma for completion in first contract.

The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range: VUV 1,432,282 to VUV 1,722,122 per annum
