Full-Time LABOUR MOBILITY REGISTRATION DAYS

On 04th April, the Labour Mobility program between Australia and Vanuatu is changing. The Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) program will be launched. SWP and PLS programs will no longer exist. The PALM program allows Approved Employers in Australia to hire workers from 9 Pacific Countries and Timor Leste, when there are not enough local workers in Australia, available.

There is a NEW electronic registration process, now that there is going to be a new Labour Mobility program.  Even if you have registered before, we encourage you to register now if you meet the criteria.

The Department of Labour is looking for Ni-Vanuatu workers for the PALM work-ready pool. The PALM program enables Ni-Vanuatu citizens to take up work opportunities in rural and regional Australia for up to four years on multi-entry visas. Employers in Australia are currently looking for staff in the agriculture, horticulture, meat-work and hospitality sectors.

Various jobs include fruit/ vegetable harvesting & packing; meat packing, boning, slicing & slaughtering; accommodation services, chef, food & beverage. You need to have good English so you can learn how to operate the machinery, have conversations with the tourists you are serving. You must be fit, strong and have a great attitude towards learning new skills, and you need to be committed to being a GREAT POSITIVE AMBASSADOR for Vanuatu; and committed to living and working in Australia for up to four years. Criteria for this employment opportunity:

  • Work readiness and very good English (you will complete an oral English interview test);
  • Meat work, agriculture, horticulture experience not essential as on the job training supplied;
  • Meat work tasks include/ are not limited to slaughter procedures of cattle, lamb, pigs & goats;
  • Ability to work within a cold storage environment and with raw meat products;
  • Agriculture/ horticulture tasks include/ are not limited to fruit/ vegetable harvesting & packing;
  • Ability to work outside in a hot climate, when harvesting fruit and/ or vegetables;
  • Excellent hand/ foot/ eye coordination for operation of machines and equipment;
  • Very good English so you can learn and understand safety rules and how to operate equipment;
  • Qualifications and experience are essential for those wanting to work in the hospitality sector;
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
  • Excellent attendance and timekeeping skills;
  • Ability to be adaptable and productive in your work processes and tasks;
  • Ability to focus on efficiency and effectiveness in performing assigned tasks;
  • Be available to work on weekends when required;
  • Be available for overtime when required;
  • As part of the visa application process, all workers must pass a medical test at an approved medical panel doctor; including having a chest x-ray.

You MUST bring the following WITH YOU for registration. If you don’t bring your passport, birth certificate, vaccination certificate, you will NOT be able to register into the electronic database.

  • Valid passport
  • Birth certificate
  • Vaccination certificate showing you are FULLY vaccinated with two doses of Astra Zeneca or Sinopharm, or one dose of Johnson & Johnson (official certificate from MoH, not your vaccination card with handwritten dates)
  • National ID card (if you have one)
  • Drivers licence (if you have one)
  • Hospitality registration: MUST bring a copy of your resume showing your hospitality experience, and MUST bring copies of your hospitality qualifications

The following dates: registration at the Dpt Labour office:

  • 09th March: surname beginning with A, B or C
  • 10th March: surname beginning with D, E or F
  • 11th March: surname beginning with G, H or I
  • 14th March: surname beginning with J, K or L
  • 15th March: surname beginning with M, N or O
  • 16th March: surname beginning with P, Q or R
  • 17th March: surname beginning with S, T or U
  • 18th March: surname beginning with V, W, X, Y or Z
  • 28th March: hospitality (must bring their hospitality qualifications/ resumes)
  • 29th March: hospitality (must bring their hospitality qualifications/ resumes)

The maximum number of people that Dpt Labour staff can see during each day is 200. After registering 200 people, the Dpt Labour will close their doors to any more coming for registration on that day.

If you are unable to attend registration on your ‘alphabet name day’ and/ or miss out on registering, and you would like to register; there WILL be additional opportunities to register again, very soon.
