Contract INTERN COMMUNICATIONS AND ENGAGEMENT

Job Description

Position Title : Intern_ Communications and Engagement
Duty Station : Port Vila, Vanuatu
Classification : Intern, Grade Other
Type of Appointment : Internship, six months
Estimated Start Date : ASAP
Closing Date : Application closes on 30 August 2024

Established in 1951, IOM is a Related Organization of the United Nations, and as the leading UN agency in the field of migration, works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non governmental partners. IOM is dedicated to promoting humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing services and advice to governments and migrants.

Context:
Working under the overall direction of the Head of Office, the intern will assist with the operational activities of IOM Vanuatu.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Support project staff to prepare creative and engaging social media posts in English
    and Bislama.
  2. Assist the IOM team in planning and implementing community outreach events and digital campaigns.
  3. Attend IOM team meetings and make suggestions for communications initiatives.
  4. Assist the Head of Office to prepare talking points and speeches for key meetings, workshops and events
  5. Assist with administering IOM Vanuatu’s Facebook and Instagram pages
  6. Suggest innovative ideas for how IOM can share important messages through radio, newspaper, social media and in-person events.
  7. Support with taking photos and videos of IOM programmes, including cataloguing and captioning content.
  8. Assist the Head of Office with writing news articles and press releases.
  9. Undertake other tasks as may be assigned.

Required Qualifications and Experience
Education

  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent): or
  • Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
  • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation.

Experience

  • Experience in administrative and communication tasks is an advantage,
  • Experience in the usage of office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.); and,
  • Experience researching and working in humanitarian and development fields, including climate change, and disaster risk management, etc is an advantage.

Skills 

  • Knowledge of the broad range of humanitarian, international development, migration, and climate change related subject areas dealt with by the Organization; and,
  • Knowledge of UN and bilateral donor programming,
  • Knowledge of administrative procedures,

Languages
Fluency in English and Bislama (oral and written).

The appointment is subject to funding confirmation.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment,
accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and security clearances. Subject to
certain exemptions, vaccination against COVID-19 will in principle be required for individuals
hired on or after 15 November 2021.

This will be verified as part of the medical clearance process.

IOM is able to offer a stipend and support for intern learning and development needs,
however this internship is not a paid position.
