Job Description

Introduction

The goal of the Vanuatu Health Program (VHP) is to support the Ministry of Health (MoH) achieve the health objectives of the National Sustainable Development Plan (NSDP) and its commitment to the delivery of health services demanded at national, provincial and local levels for a healthy, secure and productive population. The end of program outcomes (EOPOs) are:

(a) Ministry of Health (MoH) senior staff lead continuous improvement and strengthened accountability of the Vanuatu health sector; and
(b) MoH corporate services, public health and clinic services staff increase delivery of equitable, accessible and better quality essential health services.

Please note, this position is open only to those living in Vanuatu. The position is part-time (up to 4 days per week)

The Gender Coordinator will support and actively coordinate the implementation of VHP’s Inclusive Health Strategy and GESI Action Plan. Addressing gender equality in health is a key focus for the VHP which is supporting the MoH in the implementation of its Health Sector Strategy and the improvement of health services.
The VHP has developed an Inclusive Health Strategy and related GESI Action Plan to integrate gender and social inclusion across all four components of the program (corporate services, public health, provincial health reform and medical workforce), and identify and support inclusion champions in the MoH.
The Gender Coordinator will play a key role in supporting and actively coordinating the implementation of VHP’s Inclusive Health Strategy and GESI Action Plan. Working closely with the Disability and Inclusion Coordinator, the position will support the program staff to meaningfully integrate the Strategy and Action Plan, with a key focus on gender, across its four components, and the specific identified gender activities and entry points in the health sector. The Gender Coordinator will provide support to counterparts in the MoH, including in the development of the new Health Sector Strategy (2021-2030).
Gender Coordinator will provide support to the MoH to support meaningful integration of gender issues in the new HSS, working closely with the VHP Disability and Inclusion Coordinator and other government and non-government stakeholders. The position will support the MoH to review the achievements of the current HSS and identify high-level objectives, outcomes, broad activity areas and indicators and targets for gender to be incorporated into the new HSS.
