CARE in Vanuatu is looking for an Assistance – Finance Bank Finsun to be based in our Port Vila Office, with possible travel required to other sites.

Your major responsibilities will be varied and will include:

Support and assist the Senior Finance Coordinator – Corporate Accounting to process Bank Transactions ensuring compliance with CARE Finance Policies:

  • Process check payments based on approved Payment vouchers;
  • Ensures that Payment vouchers are complete, with signatures reflecting preparation, Approval, Authorization (as necessary) and that these are verified;
  • Recording of all Bank transactions in the Bank Finsun;
  • Prepare cash counts and reconcile with Cash Finsun records on a daily basis;
  • Ensures that all Bank Payment Vouchers including supporting documents are scanned and electronically filed. Maintains hard copy as per guidelines;
  • Ensure that all Payment Vouchers including supporting documents are stamped paid on a daily basis;
  • Consolidate Weekly Transaction List and send to Budget Holders;
  • Deliver payments to third parties including to staff and process fund transfers as necessary;
  • Acts as the Custodian of Cash in the absence of the Cash Float Cash Custodian;
  • Allocate appropriate reference numbers for all bank Payment Vouchers transactions;
  • Maintains bank signature cards;
  • Responsible for cash and check deposits;
  • Follow-up invoices for materials and supplies from procurement staff and program staff for payment; and
  • Responsible to maintain an accurate finance filing system according to CARE Vanuatu processes;

Required qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum Senior High School Leaving Certificate and/or minimum 1 year relevant work experience, preferably in book-keeping or basic accounting;
  • Good communication skills in both Bislama and basic knowledge of English is an advantage;
  • Ability to conduct and process basis transactions using semi technical skills – Finance, Administrative and work within closely guided routines, with minimal supervision;
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, sound judgement, planning, problem solving, team building and facilitating skills;
  • Demonstrated flexible approach and ability to work under pressure and to organise and manage workload to meet datelines;
  • Demonstrated ability to take direction and to work as part of a team;
  • Demonstrated honesty, reliable and trustworthy.
  • Proven ability to manage and acquit a cash advance;
  • Willingness and capacity to travel within Tanna and to Port Vila when required; and
  • Basic use of Microsoft Office with knowledge in Microsoft Word and Excel;
