Youth Challenge Vanuatu (YCV) is a non-government organization that has provided services to youth in Port Vila since 2001.YCV’s services primarily target youth with low-level or no qualifications. Engaging youth in employment, leadership, and entrepreneurship activities that provide young women and men with soft skills tools, and information to smooth their pathway into employment, enterprise, or further study. Youth Challenge Vanuatu is working with various stakeholders: youth participants, NGOs and the Government departments in Port Vila, intern host organizations, and development donors.

Program Overview

Prevention Adolescent Gender Base Violence

The aim of this program is to empower adolescent girls and boys in Vanuatu to prevent and respond to gender-based violence (GBV) and promote healthy and safe relationships. The program will consist of three main components:

  • Workshops for adolescent girls: Youth Challenge Vanuatu will facilitate workshops based on international best practice adapted to the local context. The workshops will cover topics such as confidence and leadership, GBV, healthy and safe relationships, sexual and reproductive health, mentorship and development of safe support systems.
  • Workshops for adolescent boys: The program will also engage adolescent boys to support safe and healthy relationships. The workshops will focus on topics such as respect and consent, GBV, communication and conflict resolution, sexual and reproductive health, and positive masculinity.
  • Engagement of parents and/or caregivers: The program will also involve the parents and/or caregivers of the participants to reinforce the information being given to the adolescents.

The program will run for 2 years. The facilitators are needed to ensure the effectiveness of this program.

Job Purpose / Summary

The facilitator has the overall responsibility for the planning and delivery of programs and activities for the adolescent Gender Base Violence workshops, and monitoring the effectiveness of the workshops.
The Facilitator will ensure that workshop delivery and activities are per the Adolescent GBV curriculum.

About the role:

The facilitator will also support the process of guiding adolescent girls and boys to achieve a common goal or objective and ensure that the workshop and other activities use a gender transformative approach and also relevant to young people with disability.

The candidate must be able to work collaboratively with the project team to understand the objective and outcome of the project, and support the development and process of training programs to help learners more effectively retain and apply new skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be able to Facilitate Workshop activities with adolescent girls or boys on varying topics in a sensitive and mature way including topics such as Gender Based Violence, Life skills, diversity, and Sexual Reproductive Health.
  • Work and support adolescent girls and boys with interactive activities.
  • Provide one-on-one talk when required.
  • Work with parents and caregivers of participants
  • Develop and Prepare a workshop plan and budget
  • Advertise and Promote the Adolescent Gender Base Violence program in different community settings.
  • Ensure workshop and other activities data collection is accurately required by donors.
  • Encourage respect, creativity, and critical thinking among the girls and boys.
  • Monitoring the progress and the outcomes of the workshops.
  • Assess and address the capacity development needs of adolescent girls and boys.
  • Work in collaboration with stakeholders and the project team.
  • Participate in the recruitment of adolescent girls and boys for training
  • Teach and bond with diverse groups of adolescent girls and boys.
  • Prepare and submit a report at the end of training activities

  • Must be over 21 years of age
  • Obtain year 12 leaving certificate or tertiary qualification in a related field or have substantial work experience in lieu of educational certificates

  • Able to work within the time frame
  • Experience in any youth empowerment, life skills or gender equality programs will be highly valued.
