Job Description

Transparency International Vanuatu (TIV) based in Port Vila, Vanuatu is part of the anti-corruption global network of Transparency International Chapters in the Asia-Pacific Region. We are committed to combating corruption, making governance more open and decision makers more accountable for their decisions. We are non-partisan and secular. TIV is expanding its focus in the area of good governance in climate change mitigation and adaptation activities. TIV wants to better support good governance in climate policy, action and justice in Vanuatu to enhance transparency, inclusivity and accountability of climate policy and framework so that climate efforts are shielded from corruption, and reach the groups most vulnerable to climate change.
Climate Change Officer to be based in Port Vila.

PURPOSE OF POSITION
The purpose of this position is to implement the Taetem Polisi, Aksen mo Jastis long Klaemet Jens – Projek and related activities within the Transparency Vanuatu Climate Governance Integrity Programme (CGIP), working closely and reporting to the Project Manager. In addition, this position is responsible for knowledge management of the Vanuatu Climate Change sector. The Climate Change Officer is expected to work closely with the other Organisation staff for an integrated and aligned approach to Climate Change across the organisation.

The Climate Change Officer will support strengthen the Vanuatu CGIP applying a gender lens of diversity and inclusion to anti-corruption in climate actions; compile awareness materials; deliver community awareness on climate change social accountability to sufficiently carry out the climate change activities under the Project.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitoring and maintaining knowledge bank of data and information relating to climate projects in Vanuatu
  • Promoting, and building capacity for social accountability with climate projects
  • Raising awareness and building community to engage in decisions relating to climate projects in their area and oversee climate initiatives

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in Climate Change, Disaster Risk Management, Environmental Science or similar field

EXPERIENCE & DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • 2 – 3 yrs of experience in climate change adaptation or relevant sectors in disaster risk management and having exposed to research, analysis and documentation.
  • Knowledge and experience in community-based climate change adaptation planning and operations.
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Prior experience in community-based project skills
  • Working knowledge in Microsoft office and basic data analyses
  • Report writing ability & Good documentation and communication skills.
  • Awareness & presentation skills.
  • Team planning.
  • Sound knowledge on developmental concepts.
  • Willingness to work in partner communities and stay in communities for certain periods of time
