Contract CCA RANGER PROJECT OFFICER

Job Description

Role Purpose

  1. The CCA Ranger Project officer will be focussed on supporting the implementation of the Vanuatu CCA Ranger Program (i) New and upgraded modules for RTK are developed and used by piloting CCA’s (ii) Support for activity/event-based community monitoring produces added value for management and scope (National level information has been aggregated and fed back to CCA) (iii) Mechanism for integration of harmonized community monitoring into MRV and national biodiversity monitoring systems(iv) Piloting of National RTK and App in piloted CCA’s in Santo, Malekula and Gaua(V) official endorsement of RTK

Term: The successful candidate will be on probation for 3 months and performance reviewed before securing a contract. The Officer will be based in the Live and Learn Vanuatu Santo Branch Office in Luganville. The Contract will be for one year, effective from the date it is signed after the 3-month probation period and may be renewed for further periods based on staff performance. Salary will be negotiated during the interview to commensurate qualification and experience.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
We’re looking for a Project Officer who is knowledgeable and passionate about community engagement and ecosystems management in Vanuatu:

  • Have more than 2 years of experience as a Project Officer in a Non-Government Organisation or any organisation/institution.
  • Minimum qualification of Diploma in social work or a holder of Bachelor Degree of Environmental management with at least 2 years of experience in field work
  • Maturity in judgement, flexibility, creativity, responsiveness, initiative, ability to take a considered approach, openness to learning, have a good sense of humour and an unconditional personal commitment to protect the natural environments and the many people depending on these for their survival.
  • Demonstrate ability to work in a team

Duties & Responsibilities:
The Ranger Project Officer is expected to perform the following duties;

  • Commit to developing an excellent working knowledge of ecosystem-based biodiversity monitoring
  • Organise, facilitate and Coordinate Community Conservation Area (CCA) Ranger and Local Management Committee Engagement (including delivery of workshops and Ranger Toolkit (RTK) monitoring surveys) with piloted CCA’s of the Ranger Program
  • Provide Technical/Project support and trainings to the 12 Rangers of the Six (6) piloted CCA’s of Santo, Malekula and Gaua
  • Support Live and Learn Vanuatu’s IKI GIZ program through follow-up community visits, establishing and maintaining networks
  • Build networks and partnerships with other agencies in accordance with the organisational objectives of Live and Learn Vanuatu, including with Government and non-government organisations and communities.
  • Provide reports, budgets and acquittals on field work as required by the Live & Learn Good Practice Manual
  • Coordinate the piloting of RTK and Ranger App within the 6 piloted CCA’s of Santo, Malekula and Gaua
  • Documenting stories and lessons learned through program, project and field experience to contribute to country program development and organizational learning;
  • Support Team Leader and Program Manager to carry out project activities as required, including contribution to project reports.
  • Any other tasks required by the Live & Learn Vanuatu Management team
