Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly organized and experienced Cargo Manager to oversee the yard operations and ensure the efficient and safe handling of cargo before it is loaded onto ships. The Cargo Manager will be responsible for recording all incoming merchandise, creating loading plans in cooperation with ship captains, and ensuring compliance with safety and security regulations. This role requires excellent coordination skills to manage handling and loading operations effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Merchandise Registration: Accurately record all incoming merchandise and ensure proper documentation before loading onto vessels.
- Loading Plans: Develop detailed loading plans in collaboration with ship captains to optimize space utilization and ensure safe transport.
- Safety and Security Compliance: Enforce all safety and security regulations within the yard to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment.
- Coordination of Handling and Loading Operations: Oversee and coordinate the activities of handling and loading operations to ensure smooth and efficient processes.
- Yard Management: Supervise the yard area, ensuring it is organized and maintained in a way that facilitates efficient operations.
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a team of yard workers, providing guidance and support to ensure high performance and compliance with company standards.
- Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with ship captains, yard workers, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment and efficiency in operations.
- Problem Solving: Address and resolve any issues or challenges that arise during the loading and handling processes promptly and effectively.
- Reporting: Prepare and submit regular reports on yard operations, merchandise handling, and compliance with safety regulations.
Qualifications:
- Education: Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in cargo management, yard operations, or a similar role within the shipping or logistics industry.
- Skills:
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in creating and managing loading plans.
- Knowledge of safety and security regulations within a yard or port environment.
- Leadership and team management experience.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to make quick, effective decisions under pressure.
• Language: Proficiency in English is required; Bislama languages are a plus.
• Certifications: Relevant certifications in cargo handling, safety, or maritime operations are advantageous.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in outdoor environments and in various weather conditions.
- Capability to perform physically demanding tasks and operate yard equipment as needed.
