The Opportunity

A six-month employment contract based in Port Vila and reporting to the Team Leader Accounting, the Assistant Accountant is an important role, working across the organisation with teams across the globe.

Main Purpose Of Position

To undertake all accounting processing activities aligned with organisational requirements, liaising with all the business departments to ensure the maintenance of vendor relationships through effective management of accounts payable.

Principal Responsibilities and Tasks

  • Monitor and manage the accounts payable email.
  • Receive, verify, process and reconcile invoices in compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Assist with arranging payments of invoices.
  • Communicate with the broader accounting team to manage accounts payable processes effectively.
  • Address queries regarding invoice items from internal departments as well as vendors.
  • Handle any vendor payment-related issues by verifying and investigating discrepancies, if any, by reconciling vendor accounts against statements.
  • Liaise with the bank for payment instructions and address any payment issues.
  • Collaborate with the Accountants to produce monthly reconciliations.
  • Execute daily bookkeeping by recording and tracking financial transactions within the Quickbooks Online accounting software.
  • Assist with month-end closing activities.
  • Perform other ad hoc tasks as required by the Accounting Team Leader or Finance Manager.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary degree or equivalent in a business, ideally specialising in Accounting/Finance or a professional qualification in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum one year experience in a related role.
  • Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills.
  • Previous experience in handling Quickbooks/Xero is preferred but not essential.
