The Vanuatu Institute of Technology (VIT) is looking to appoint an Accountant to head its Finance Section
VIT aims to appoint a solutions-driven, proactive, team orientated and effective professional who is committed to whole institute improvement and is excited to lead the Finance Section in VIT’s next phase of development. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with a strong integrity and honesty in carrying out his or her duties.
The essential function of the position within the organization is to maintain systems of accounting and internal control to satisfy the VIT’s financial record-keeping obligations. The position is responsible for performing responsible professional accounting work in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, providing reliable financial forecasts and other reports from which management and the VIT Council can make informed decisions, assisting with capital and operating budget preparation, performing internal financial audits and coordinating external audit processes, and performing related work as assigned.
What you will need to succeed:
- Technical skills: knowledge of current accounting practices and principles, accounting and finance, law and other statutory obligations. Excellent analytical skills.
- Industry experience: significant accounting experience (8-10 years as a guideline)
- Management skills: demonstrates business acumen and translates business objectives into actionable plans and results, experience leading and developing an effective finance team.
- Personal qualities: the confidence and skills to deal directly with and influence senior managers, customer service focused and responsive to customer’s needs, energetic, intelligent, respects, confidentiality, pro-active, integrity enthusiastic and able to work independently.
- Technology skills: good Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills, competence, experience with accounting software applications
- Language skills: fluent in verbal and written English and/or French and Bislama
- Communication skills: excellent communication skills, able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization, able to effectively resolve conflict situations, able to work collaboratively with managers and staff.
- Experience in Smart Stream accounting software would be an advantage.
Remuneration:
Vatu 2,489,500 including housing and child allowance
