Job Description
Exciting employment opportunities currently exist for meat workers and meat packers in Australia. These employment opportunities are being supported through the Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS) which officially commenced on 1 July 2018. The Pacific Labour Scheme currently enables Ni-Vanuatu citizens aged between 21 and 45 years to take up low and semi-skilled work opportunities in rural and regional Australia for up to three years on multi-entry/ multi-exit visas.
Various meat processing jobs include meat packing, boning, slicing and slaughtering. Both men and women are encouraged to apply. The Australian companies are hiring women for meat packing, and men for heavy loading and the slaughtering roles. You need to have excellent English so you can learn how to operate the machinery. You must be fit, strong and have a great attitude towards learning these meat processing skills, and you need to be committed to living in Australia for up to three years.
Criteria for this employment opportunity:
- Work readiness and excellent English is essential;
- Able to prepare and present an English presentation for 5 minutes to DoL staff;
- Meat work experience not essential as on the job training will be supplied;
- Tasks include and are not limited to technical slaughter procedures of cattle, lamb, pigs and goats;
- Ability to work within a cold storage environment and with raw meat products;
- Excellent hand/ foot/ eye coordination for operation of machines and equipment;
- Excellent English so you can learn and understand safety rules and how to operate the equipment;
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
- Excellent attendance and timekeeping skills;
- Behaviour is cooperative towards others and includes respect for diversity;
- Ability to be adaptable and productive in your work processes and tasks;
- Ability to focus on efficiency and effectiveness in performing assigned tasks;
- Be available for overtime when required;
- Wages are in accordance with the Meat Industry Award 2010;
Medical and fitness testing essential for this employment opportunity:
All applicants will be required to pass a health medical and fitness test including:
- Drug and alcohol testing;
- Holding a 30 second squat;
- Holding a 90 second plank;
- Lifting/moving 5kg – 25kg;
- Standing for 8+ hours per day;
- Regular bending/ lifting;
- Hand skin test for: eczema, dermatitis, boils, infections, psoriasis, ulcers
- Q Fever vaccination required
