Job Description

Fishing Boat Charter Captain

Location: Ratua Private Island Resort, Vanuatu

Ratua Private Island Resort is seeking an experienced and reliable Fishing Boat Charter Captain to join our marine operations team. This role is ideal for a safety-focused, customer-oriented professional with strong local waters knowledge and a passion for sport fishing and guest service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate and navigate the resort’s fishing charter vessel
  • Conduct fishing charters for resort guests (sport fishing, reef fishing, sightseeing)
  • Ensure compliance with maritime safety standards and resort SOPs
  • Maintain the boat, engine, fishing gear, and safety equipment
  • Brief guests on safety procedures and fishing techniques
  • Assist guests with baiting, casting, and handling catches
  • Keep accurate logs of trips, fuel usage, and maintenance
  • Support marine activities when not on charter (snorkelling, lagoon transfers, etc.)

Requirements

  • Valid Captain/Boat Master license (Vanuatu or recognised international equivalent)
  • Minimum 2–3 years experience operating fishing or charter vessels
  • Strong knowledge of local waters, tides, and weather conditions
  • Basic engine maintenance and troubleshooting skills
  • First Aid & Sea Survival certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Excellent guest service and communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and public holidays

Desirable

  • Sport fishing or game fishing experience
  • Knowledge of sustainable fishing practices
  • Previous resort or tourism experience
