Contract VERTICAL GARDENING SPECIALIST
Job Description
Scope of Work
The assignment will focus on the food security component under Output 1 of the project particularly the provision of training and coaching on vertical gardening for DARD staff. A Vertical Gardening Specialist will be engaged to design and implement vertical gardening trainings to relevant DARD staff.
Detailed Tasks and/or Expected Output
Working under the Director of DARD and with Agriculture Specialist/Program Coordinator and PST consultants, the Vertical Gardening Specialist will undertake the following:
(i) Develops a training manual for low-technology approaches to backyard gardening which fits the urban and peri-urban setting in Vanuatu.
(ii) Designs and delivers 8 half-days of remote training on low-tech approaches to implementing vertical gardening techniques and share printable materials during trainings.
(iii) Ensures proper coordination with DARD and selection of relevant staff within DARD.
The consultant will report to DARD Director and work closely with the Agriculture Specialist/Program Coordinator consultant in coordinating and planning for the trainings with relevant DARD staff. The consultant will provide the trainings remotely given the potential lack of travel to Vanuatu and will use the most effective approach to maximize the learning opportunities for the participants of online trainings. In-country travel though will be explored during implementation depending on the opening of travels to Vanuatu.
The consultant will be engaged intermittently for 2 person-months. The estimated commencement of the assignment is in March/April 2022.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Minimum 5 years of work experience in related field work, i.e., vertical gardening and agriculture. Experience in the design and delivery of Training of Trainers workshops. Must have good English writing and communication skills. Must have access to high-internet speed. Specialist based in-country will be highly preferred.
