The Opportunity
The University of the South Pacific is looking for a suitable candidate who will provide a range of paraprofessional support for library work in the section to which they are assigned. The duties by the Library Assistant in all sections are associated with provision of information, reference and related services to Library customers comprising of students, faculty and staff, researchers, consultants and the general public; contribution to and participation in aspects of the Library’s Information Research Skills (IRS) programme; organisation, processing, maintenance and delivery of library resource/materials; production and creation of library records of various types and maintenance of bibliographic and other files/records.
The Person We Seek
To be considered for this position, applicants must have: a Diploma in Library and Information Studies with relevant work related experience OR a Certificate in Library and Information Studies with post-certificate relevant work experience; or completion of a post-trades certificate or advanced certificate and extensive relevant experience and on the job training; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training; competence in Library technical skills; use of an ILS; cataloguing, classification, acquisitions etc; very good understanding of customer service; commitment to student success; competence (intermediate to advanced) with a range of IT and Microsoft Office software inclusive of email and internet searching skills; very good oral and written communication skills; very good interpersonal skills; the ability to work as part of a team; and the ability to work rostered shifts on evening, weekends, and public holidays.
Remuneration
The position is available for a term of 3 years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
Salary Range: Grade 3 VUV 1,142,443 to VUV 1,432,282 per annum
