The Head Chef we are looking for must be creative and proficient in food preparation and able to maintain complete control of the kitchen.
JOB DESCRIPTION
- Plan and direct food preparation and culinary activities
- Keep food cost in check: control portion sizes, purchasing quantities, food wastage
- Modify menus or create new ones that meet top quality standards
- Costing of menus
- Maintain consistency of menu items in presentation, quality, serving size
- Initiate procedures and systems to eliminate pilferage
- Recruit, train, manage and roster kitchen staff
- Comply with nutrition and sanitation regulations and safety standards
- Arrange for equipment purchases and repairs
- Rectify arising problems or complaints from customers
- Perform administrative duties
- Maintain a positive and professional approach with co-workers and customers.
REQUIREMENTS
- Proven working experience as Head Chef in a resort or restaurant
- Excellent record of kitchen management
- Able to spot and resolve problems efficiently
- Capable of multi-tasking
- Have excellent communication and leadership skills
- Keep up with cooking trends and best practices
- Have working knowledge of various computer software programs (MS Office, restaurant management software, POS)
- Qualifications in professional cookery preferred.
